Sri Lanka Speaker formally announces President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's resignation

Sri Lanka crisis: Sri Lanka Parliament Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardenaon on Friday formally announced the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, a day after he submitted his resignation to him. The Speaker said that Rajapaksa sent his resignation via email. "On July 16, that is tomorrow, the session of Parliament will be called, in which the process to elect the new President will be discussed."
